I've been writing a series of blogs explaining that Linux has reason to fear Windows 7, because it may kill Linux's market share. But there's also plenty of reason for Microsoft to fear Linux, which is why Microsoft is looking to Windows 7 as a Linux-killer.
It's the perfect storm. Computer manufacturers have figured out how to produce lightweight, low-end machines that cost very little just as the economy takes a big tumble. Meanwhile, software applications that once needed robust hardware to run are now moving to the cloud. The result? An explosion of netbooks, the "sub-compact" car of notebook computers, most of which don't cost too much more than the average smartphone.
For those that decry the constant prediction of the “year of the Linux desktop” I am happy to say that next year Linux may actually ship on more desktops than Windows or the Mac. That is right, I said next year. What is driving this? Two words: fast boot.
Over the weekend, I took home a laptop from school that had been donated to us, I threw Ubuntu on it. When I got home the fun began. I begin searching for Ubuntu software, and I wanted something close to iTunes for Ubuntu, so I found Songbird. Songbird is a free Open Source software made be Mozilla. It looks a lot like iTunes, and functions pretty close to the same way. I was satisfied with it. Another nice thing is, that it has a ton of plugins, one that I particularly liked was the Shout cast one. Check it out for yourself.

Envizions Computer Entertainment announced recently that the Linux-based EVO gaming console will be available for sale November 18.
There have been dedicated gaming consoles that are able to run Linux, namely the PS3. In these cases, Linux made the console function more as a home computer than a gaming rig. The EVO system uses Linux to power the games.
It is a system geared for early adopters and developers at this point.
