Oracle released VirtualBox 4.0.2, a maintenance release of VirtualBox 4.0. It improves stability and fixes regressions.

At the time of writing this article, Ubuntu 11.04 codenamed "Natty Narwhal" is still very much in its nascent stages of development. I really wanted to take it for a spin and write about my first hand impressions on latest build Ubuntu Natty. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal Alpha 1 in my USB drive and things went pretty smooth from the word go.
For most Ubuntu users, disabling IPv6 can increase the Internet speed on their system if they feel that it is slower than what it used to be on Windows or Mac.
Follow the instructions:
* First check that your Internet connection makes use of IPv4 or not. Go to ip-lookup.net and click on Conversations. It will tell you if you are using IPv4 or not. If it is using IPv4, we can disable IPv6, otherwise this tutorial will not be applicable.
* Now we need to add a line to sysctl.conf. Run the follwing command: sudo gedit /etc/sysctl.conf
LibreOffice is already my default office suite in Ubuntu though there is not much of a difference between OpenOffice and LibreOffice for now. But things are moving fast and LibreOffice is going to have its first official release soon. Meanwhile, you might want to remove all traces of OpenOffice and install LibreOffice in Ubuntu for a change. Trust me, it feels good.

Today I wanted to post some pictures to a site but to upload them I needed them to be considerably smaller. I know lots of ways to resize images in Linux but I needed an easy way to resize them. In Windows, I am used to using the Image Resizer Power Toy. (Why is that not a default feature?) The image resizer in Windows allows me to just right click on one or more images and resize them to any number of sizes. That is pretty handy and a feature I was looking for in Linux too. Sadly, there is not one already installed by default. I knew I could use the Gimp to do what I wanted but that was overkill. I wanted a simple and fast solution.
VirtualBox 4.0 beta was released today with some major changes. The biggest change is that some functionality has moved into a separate package (such as the USB 2.0 support, RDP server and more).
But that's not all: VirtualBox 4.0 beta also comes with a redesigned user interface, settings/disk file layout for VM portability, support for more than 1.5/2 GB guest RAM on 32-bit hosts, support for the Intel ICH9 chipset, support for limiting a VM's CPU time and IO bandwidth, asynchronous I/O for iSCSI, VMDK, VHD and Parallels images, support for resizing VDI and VHD images and more. For a complete list of new features, see the release announcement.
CLI Companion is a really useful tool especially if you are a complete newcomer to Linux and Ubuntu and totally unaware of ways to understand command line. Ironically, CLI Companion lets you learn and enjoy command line using its simple GUI.

FAI is a non-interactive system to install, customize and manage Linux systems and software configurations on computers as well as virtual machines and chroot environments, from small networks to large-scale infrastructures and clusters.
It’s a tool for unattended mass deployment of Linux. You can take one or more virgin PC’s, turn on the power, and after a few minutes, the systems are installed, and completely configured to your exact needs, without any interaction necessary.
Indicator-VirtualBox is a simple yet very useful appindicator which you can use to launch VirtualBox machines without opening VirtualBox. It works with both VirtualBox and VirtualBox-OSE.
Sure, you can create shortcuts to launch VirtualBox machines, but if you constantly create new ones, a way to automatically have shortcuts for all the virtual machines sounds much better and that's what Indicator-VirtualBox is designed to do.
